William
Parker Jr. and his son William Parker III, president and
vice president of McShane Bell Foundry in Glen Burnie, have
been selected from among 700 nominees as "Exceptional
Working People" in a contest sponsored by the WearGuard
Corp.
Only
five people are picked for the honor by WearGuard, which
makes clothes and uniforms.
The
company will feature the winner in a catalog.
The annual Heroes Program is meant to recognize hard-working,
everyday people with extraordinary dedication.
The
Parkers run the last church bell manufacturing operation
in the country, surviving against high equipment costs and
a dwindling market.
The
company noted that the Parkers recently donated a 600-pound
bell to a Baltimore tower where inner-city kids meet to
study meteorology.
